The family of an Irishman who went missing in Amsterdam over a week ago have said they have been left ‘broken’ after his body was found in the city.

City police had issued an appeal for help in finding Andrew Furey, 48, earlier this week. He was last seen on the night of April 11 after leaving a bar in the Rembrandtplein area and failed to return to the apartment he was staying later that evening.

The family have now launched a fundraising appeal to help cover the costs of bringing his body home.

Neither police or the family have said how he died or where his body was found.
