Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address the lower house of the Dutch parliament on Thursday via a video link.

Zelenskyy has been making a virtual tour of foreign parliaments, including those of Japan, Australia, Canada and Norway as part of his efforts to bolster support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

The speech will start at 10.15 and will be followed by a parliamentary debate.

All political parties will attend the debate apart from the far-right Forum voor Democratie, which is boycotting the speech on the grounds that it is inappropriate.

That decision by FvD leader Thierry Baudet has led to two of the party’s three remaining senators, Theo Hiddema and Paul Frentrop, to leave the far right grouping.  They described the MP’s decision as ‘a surprise and disappointment’.

Their decision to quit leaves the party with just one senator. Eleven of the 12 senators elected in the provincial elections of 2019 have since left FvD following a string of splits.
