People who had the single dose Janssen coronavirus vaccine and a booster may be able to get a third shot from mid March, health minister Ernst Kuipers has told MPs.

The Dutch approach to the Janssen vaccine is causing problems for people who want to travel to Germany and France, because both countries have imposed restrictions on people who have not had three shots.

The cabinet has asked the health council for its recommendations.

Kuipers told MPs he recognised the problem but that a third dose can only be administered three months after the second. Given the booster campaign started in December, it will be mid March or later than most people can make an appointment, Kuipers said.

The Belgian government announced on Wednesday that people who have had the single dose vaccine and a booster can get a third dose three months later.
