Forecasters are slightly more optimistic about September’s weather, but an ‘Indian summer’ is unlikely.

Things will improve, however, following a dreary final August weekend, Weerplaza’s Alfred Snoek told Nu.nl.

Most of the country will remain dry in the coming week with sunny spells although the north and the east of the country will be cloudy.

On Saturday the temperature could climb as high as 25 degrees inland but there will be no days of uninterrupted sunshine, Snoek said. From Sunday things will change and cloud and rain will return.

Although many felt the summer was a washout, particularly in July and August, the average temperature of 17.7 degrees Celsius was higher than normal. Only 12 summers since 1901 were warmer.
