The provincial council in Noord-Brabant has collapsed after the VVD and Christian Democrats said they no longer had any confidence in a coalition with the far right Forum voor Democratie.

There have, the parties said, been too many incidents involving the FvD and that the resulting instability made it difficult to manage the province properly.

Just four of the nine seats which FvD won in the provincial elections 2019 are now held by party members following a series of splits and resignations, partly stemming from turmoil within the national FvD.

Despite emerging as the biggest party in the 2019 provincial vote, FvD was included in just two of the 12 council ruling coalitions – Limburg and Noord-Brabant.
