There are now fewer than 300 coronavirus patients in Dutch hospitals, with just two more added to the list of admissions in the past 24 hours, according to new official figures.

In fact, there have been just five hospital admissions in the past week, figures from public health institute RIVM show.

The total number includes 57 people who are being treated for Covid-19 in intensive care units. At the height of the epidemic, some 1,400 people were being treated in ICUs.

The death toll rose by eight to 6,089 on Saturday, most of which relate to deaths earlier in the week.

A further 91 people have tested positive for the virus, taking that total to 49,502. Since June 1 everyone with symptoms has been able to have a test.
