Ronald Koeman to quit as Feyenoord coach at end of the season

Ronald Koeman is to bow out as coach of Rotterdam football club Feyenoord at the end of this season.

Koeman is currently in his third season with Feyenoord. In the first year of his stewardship, the Rotterdammers made it through to the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and in the second they finished third in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Koeman said he had made his decision on the basis of instinct. Feyenoord are currently in fourth place.

Replacements

A considerable group of heavyweight coaches are currently, or soon to be without a club and could take over from Koeman.

Marco van Basten is leaving Heerenveen, Dick Advocaat’s contract at AZ ends this year and Louis van Gaal is quitting as Oranje coach. Co Adriaanse and Fred Rutten could also step in, news agency ANP said.

Football pundit Johan Derksen says the club’s technical director Martin van Geel has his eye on Adriaanse, who was sacked by FC Twente in 2012.
