More calls made to crime hot-line last year

There were 15,700 usable reports made to the anonymous crime hot-line Meld Misdaad Anoniem last year, an increase of 5% on 2012.

Most of the tip-offs – 9,100 – were connected to drugs and there was a 50% rise in reports about illegal drugs labs. One tip-off led to the closure of the biggest ecstasy laboratory yet found in the Netherlands, in Rosmalen, Noord-Brabant.

The hot-line also reported a 34% rise in tip-offs about money laundering, blackmail and illegal assets.

The organisation claims its work was partly responsible for 1,900 arrests and solving 1,000 crimes. A further 126 crimes were prevented.
