Minister wants to turn down the volume at concerts

Concert organisers and junior health minister Martin van Rijn are meeting on Friday to discuss turning down the volume at music events.

Every year some 800,0000 people in the Netherlands report to their doctor with hearing problems, according to public health institute RIVM.

An increasing number of them are youngsters whose hearing has been damaged by loud music at concerts and on headphones, the RIVM says. Some 20% of them hear a constant beeping in their ears, and 60% hear beeping after going out.

Van Rijn now wants to work with the sector to try to combat potential damage caused by very loud music.
