A fourth speed skating gold as Stefan Groothuis wins the 1,000m

Stefan Groothuis won the Netherlands’ fourth Olympic gold medal on Wednesday, winning the speed skating 1,000m in 1.08.39.

Canada’s Denny Morrison took the silver medal with Michel Mulder, who won the 500m sprint earlier in the week, taking bronze.

Today’s tally means the Dutch men’s speed skating team have won eight of the nine medals awarded so far.

On Saturday, Groothuis is in action again in the men’s 1,500m. Next Tuesday, the 10,000m takes place and includes Sven Kramer in the line up.

Women

On Tuesday, Margot Boer won the bronze medal in the women’s 500m sprint. Added to Ireen Wüst’s gold in the 3,000m, the Dutch women have taken two out of six medals so far.

Wüst and Boer will be in action again in the women’s 1,000m on Thursday and Wüst will also be in the 5,000m next Wednesday.
