Online gambling firm fined for targeting Dutch punters

A Curaçao-based gambling company has become the first to be fined for offering online bingo and roulette to Dutch punters without a licence, Nos television reports.

Globalstars has to pay a fine of €100,000 for breaking the law which says companies cannot target Dutch gamblers. The Dutch gambling authority issued a number of warnings to companies about their illegal practices a year ago, Nos said.

New rules are currently being drawn up to licence other gambling firms and are expected to come into force in 2015. At the moment, the Dutch state operates a gambling monopoly.
