Merged Applied Materials and Tokyo Electron go for Dutch domicile

The new company to be created following the merger of US company Applied Materials and Japan’s Tokyo Electron will be domiciled in Amsterdam, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Tuesday.

The new company will be listed in Tokyo and New York and managed from California and Japan, the FD said.

Last month the paper highlighted the popularity of the Netherlands as a location for international mergers following the decision of newly-created advertising giant Publicis Omnicom to locate its HQ in the Netherlands.

Other merged firms to domicile in the Dutch capital include STMicroelectronics, EADS, Agusta-Westland and Fiat Industrial/CNH. While the holding companies generate few jobs, they do support a service industry of accountants and lawyers, the paper said.
