Ben van Beurden takes over at Shell

Royal Dutch Shell on Tuesday announced Dutchman Ben van Beurden as its new chief executive, effective January 1 2014.

The 55-year-old Van Beurden takes over from the Swiss Peter Voser, who is retiring from the company after 25 years service.

Van Beurden, a chemical engineer, joined Shell in 1983 and has worked around the world in technical and commercial functions. He is currently director of the raffinery division and a board member.
