The gloom sets in: pessimism mounts and burn-out on the rise

The consumer confidence indicator dropped five points in November to -37, figures from the national statistics office CBS show on Tuesday.

This is extremely low, particularly when compared with the average of the past 20 years of around -8, the CBS said.
Consumers were particularly pessimistic about their own financial situation during the coming 12 months. This indicator dropped 12 points compared with October to -32, a record low.
Symptoms
Alongside the economic gloom, one in eight workers also had symptoms of burn-out in 2011, including fatigue and emotional lethargy, the CBS said.
A feeling of emptiness is the number one complaint. Nearly 27% of those questioned said they feel ’empty’, says the CBS.
Workers under high pressure with little social support from colleagues are more likely to complain of burn-out (37%), while people who feel supported have fewer problems (11%).
In general, workers with a partner and children are the least likely to suffer burn-out, with one in nine reporting symptoms.
