A private school in Valkenswaard which caters to ‘vulnerable’ and autistic children aged eight to 18 has been closed following a sex scandal.

The director of the Agnus Dei school and another member of staff have been arrested in connection with the sexual abuse of pupils at the school and remain in custody.
The 48-year-old director is suspected of sexually abusing a pupil and was arrested two weeks ago. A second person, aged 34, has since been arrested on charges of ‘inappropriate immoral behaviour’.
Autism
On Thursday, the school board told the education ministry the school had been closed down, but did not give a reason.
The school caters to children with special learning issues, either because they are highly gifted or have autism. Classes are small and teaching is child-focused. It is not clear how many children attend the school.
According to the school inspectorate, all the teachers at the school’s primary department have been formally cleared to work with children and the school is considered safe and a good learning environment.
