A high-speed Thalys train from Amsterdam, carrying over 300 people, was stranded at Brussels North station because of a railway strike on Wednesday morning.

The train was heading for Paris but was caught up in a 24-hour strike which has virtually paralysed rail services in Belgium. Services from the Netherlands have also been disrupted.
The strike is part of a European day of action in protest at EU savings. Other strikes are taking place in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy, Nos television said.
