We cannot just build a new program for the sake of having one. The program must be relevant in today’s globalized world, promote our issues in sustainability, and allow us to contribute something substantial to the global community.

Our new Master’s in Counseling Psychology does just that. By being dually accredited in the U.S. and Europe, we are working with the Bijlmer Project in Amsterdam to provide psycho-social support for victims of human trafficking, a serious issue in today’s globalized world.

The MA in Counseling Psychology prepares graduates for actual practice and further study in Psychology. Our students are given the opportunity to become active in the Biljmer Project under the direct supervision of one of our faculty.

This particular internship opportunity allows students to work with victims of human trafficking, implementing a peer-led trauma-focused therapy. Students may also conduct their internship within Webster University’s Counseling Center, which provides assessment and therapy to students and members of the public presenting with a range of difficulties.

Students can of course choose alternatives based on their experience and interests and they will be supported in sourcing an appropriate internship by our Careers Center.

The program is theoretical and practical, an example of our teaching style. Our faculty are practicing Psychologists or Counselors and bring their authentic experiences into the classroom. By blending the theoretical with the practical, and drawing on the scientist-practitioner model, students will understand theoretical concepts and be given the tools and supervision to implement them in the real world.

This program is unique in the Netherlands and is designed to fit around student’s work schedule and home life. By providing courses in the evenings our students can easily schedule the program around their professional duties.

Additionally, we pride ourselves on our high instructor to student ratio, which means our students receive the attention they deserve.
