Dutch investors move away from Dutch shares

Investors in the Netherlands are less likely to invest in traditional Dutch companies such as Aegon and Philips and are putting their money instead into international investment funds, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Friday.

Research by asset manager Schroders into the investment patterns of 300 investors shows that foreign funds are gaining ground.
TNS Nipo has questioned the same group of investors on behalf of Schroders for three years.
Over the past year, the number of investors putting money into Dutch stocks went down from 57% to 50%. ‘Dutch investors are losing their preference for local shares,’ Schroders Benelux director Michel Vermeulen told the paper.
The rise of professional advisors is playing a role in this, he said. ‘Using an advisor leads to a broader portfolio,’ Vermeulen said.
