Road maintenance cuts will mean more traffic jams

Traffic jams are set to get worse from October when the transport ministry introduces measures to cut €1.64bn from its budget.

According to the construction sector magazine Cobouw, road maintenance will no longer be carried out at night which will mean savings in energy costs.
However, it will also mean slower moving traffic as more maintenance is carried out during the day and early evening.
The ministry’s road traffic arm Rijkswaterstaat says work will stop at 23.00 hours on the busiest roads and at 21.00 hours on quieter roads.
