Junior minister takes over helm at social affairs

Junior social affairs minister Paul de Krom is to take over the helm of the ministry while Henk Kamp attempts to put together a new coalition government.

Kamp and former Labour leader Wouter Bos will take over the formation process on Thursday, focusing on an alliance between the right-wing VVD and Labour.
Although the cabinet is in a caretaker role, De Krom may have an important role to play in deciding what to do about the financial troubles facing many of the country’s pension funds, website nu.nl points out.
Kamp had been considering changing the way interest rates are calculated and used to determine how high funds’ assets are. According to some reports, a decision may be taken on this as early as next week.
Like Kamp, De Krom is a member of the VVD.
