Dutch motorists will escape Belgian speeding fines – temporarily

Dutch drivers who are caught speeding in Belgium will no longer be fined because the new system Belgium uses to trace motorists has not been approved by the Netherlands, according to Belgian paper Het Laatste Nieuws.

Belgium has introduced a new number plate recognition system which allows the police to trace addresses and mail fines more easily.
But the Eucaris system is not yet enshrined in Dutch law. This means Belgium must go through the traditional channels to try to get fines paid.
According to the paper, Belgium hopes to have agreed a treaty with the Netherlands by the end of this year.
