Two jailed for attacking Dutch tourists

Two Romanian farmworkers have been jailed for 11 years for attacking and robbing a Dutch couple who were on a charity cycling tour in Italy.

The couple were attacked and the woman raped while camping in the countryside near Rome.
The case caused a stir at the time because Rome’s right-wing mayor Gianni Alemanno had just announced a clampdown on violence by immigrants. He also accused the Dutch couple of being careless for not using a proper campsite.
