Royal attack: six still in hospital

Six people injured when Karst Tates drove his Suzuki car through the crowds watching the royal motorcade during Thursday’s Queen’s Day celebrations are still in hospital, Apeldoorn mayor Fred de Graaf said on Tuesday.

One woman remains in a very serious condition, De Graaf said at a news conference. Seven people, including the driver of the car, were killed in the attack.
A special memorial service for the victims will be held at Apeldoorn’s Orpheus theatre on Friday evening.
Queen Beatrix, crown-prince Willem-Alexander, princess Maxima and princess Magriet will be among the mourners. The prime minister and other members of the cabinet will also attend, De Graaf said.
The service will be broadcast live on a giant video screen on the city’s market square.
Investigations
Three investigations are currently under way into events in Apeldoorn on April 30. The national terrorism unit NCTb is looking at the security precautions which were taken, the police are looking into the attack itself and the city council is looking into its role.
Information gathered in these investigations will be used in a major independent inquiry which will look at all aspects of the attack, De Graaf said. The aim of the independent inquiry is to ‘give clarity to the facts which have emerged and to point to where responsibility lies,’ he told reporters.
