Fortuna Sittard loses prof football licence

First division football club Fortuna Sittard is losing its professional football licence because it cannot submit a feasible budget for next year’s competition, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

The club had been on the verge of a merger with premier division side Roda JC earlier this season, but the deal fell through when Limburg provincial council decided not to put millions of euros into the club.
Fortuna can go to court to try to have the decision reversed. Fortuna’s fortunes have waned since it was relegated from the premier league in 2002.
