Car insurance firms refuse the over-65s

Over half of the Netherlands’ insurance companies refuse to take on motorists aged over 65 as new customers and a further 25% charge them higher premiums, according to research by insurance website Verzekeringssite.nl.

The site, which compares insurance companies, looked at 46 car insurance firms.
Only 11 companies are prepared to take on the over-65s without charging them higher fees.
The site’s director Erik Hordijk told the Telegraaf that older drivers are seen as a greater risk and have become the victim of the price war in the car insurance sector.
