RWE ‘economic’ owner of nuclear plant

German power company RWE will be the economic owner of the Netherlands only nuclear power plant at Borssele when it takes over Essent, but not the legal owner, the NRC reports.

The paper says RWE will have economic ownership – meaning it carries the risk and earns the profit – but that the legal ownership would remain with a limited company owned by Essent.
That limited company would be owned by Essent’s current shareholders – local and provincial governments, the paper says.
Borssele is jointly owned by Essent and the province of Zeeland’s regional power utility Delta.
MPs and economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven want the power plant to remain in public hands after the Essent takeover.
