Lecturer trampled to death by elephant

A 59-year-old Dutch university professor has been trampled to death by a wild elephant at the Kaziranga national park in north-eastern India, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

Robert Goldbach taught at Wageningen University and flew around the world studying rare birds, the paper said.
The accident happened when Goldbach and eight others were out in an area with dense undergrowth, accompanied by a specialist guide and armed security men.
Over the past 10 years, more than 150 people have been killed by elephants in the region, the paper says.
