Jet fighter decision may be delayed to 2011

The cabinet may put off a decision on whether to buy the new US-developed JSF fighter jet until after the next election in 2011, Nos tv reports on Tuesday, quoting sources in The Hague.

Ministers were due to take a final decision next year, but the coalition government is divided and a delay is the most likely outcome, the sources said.
The Christian Democrats back the JSF, Labour has serious doubts and the minor coalition partner ChristenUnie is also undecided.
However, news agency ANP reports that ministers are likely to agree to buy a test aircraft this year.
Ministers are due to discuss how to replace the armed forces’ aging F16s with junior defence minister Jack de Vries on Thursday.
