Fewer people to take a holiday in May

Around 2.8 million people are expected to go on holiday during the school break which starts at the weekend, says the national Dutch tourist board NBTC on Monday.

The number is considerably less than last year’s 3.5 million, the NBTC says.
Of those going away in the coming weeks, around half will remain in the Netherlands.
The school holiday (known as the May holiday even though it starts on April 25) officially runs until Wednesday May 6 and includes the national Queen’s Day celebrations on April 30 and Liberation Day on May 5. Some schools do not start again until May 10.
