Anti-Islam party picks EU campaign leader

MP Barry Madlener is to lead Geert Wilder’s anti-Islam party PVV in this year’s European election campaign.

Wilders himself is 10th on the list of possible members of the European parliament but says he will not take up a seat even if elected on preference votes.
‘It is important that someone in Brussels stands up for Dutch interests,’ Madlener said at the weekend. ‘The current Dutch MEPs think European. They do not fight for their own interests.’
The main points of the PVV’s European election campaign include: the abolition of the European parliament, an end to financial support for poorer EU countries, and a definite ban on Turkey joining the EU.
‘Europe must not be a super state but limit itself to economic cooperation,’ Madlener told the Volkskrant. ‘The Netherlands pays for building roads in Portugal and Poland while our traffic jams increase. We want our money back.’
