The Hague gears up for Afghan summit

The Hague will be at the centre of a massive security operation when it hosts a major summit on the future of Afghanistan next week, Trouw reports on Tuesday.

Iran, China and Pakistan have also been invited to attend the summit, by US secretary of state Hilary Clinton.
The Hague mayor Jozias van Aartsen said the city was a logical choice. ‘It might seem arrogant, but The Hague is the second UN city after New York,’ he told the paper.
Some 70 countries are sending delegations to the summit. At least 1,000 journalists and ‘an army’ of security officials are also expected to attend.
