More objections to digital patient records

Some 438,000 people have so far registered their objections to inclusion in the new central digital health record system, health minister Ab Klink told MPs on Wednesday.

The total is higher than the minister had expected, he told MPs.
The electronic system (EPD) will allow doctors, pharmacists and hospital specialists to access patients’ files which will be held in a central database.
Just 100 health providers are currently connected to the system and hopes to have a further 800 connected by July 2009 will not now be achieved, the minister said.
