Late buses lead to anti-driver aggression

Buses arriving too late are one of the main reasons for increasing aggression against drivers, according to research by the FNV Bondgenoten union, quoted by the AD on Monday.

The union analysed the causes of some 300 verbal and physical attacks on drivers between March 6 and March 17.
The union says bus companies are refusing to accept responsibility for attacks on their workers, and write them off as a social problem. In addition to improving security measures on buses, time tables must be made more realistic and fares simplified, the union says.
On Monday, a 19-year-old man from Soest was sentenced to seven months in jail for attacking a bus driver, breaking his cheekbone.
