Teachers may be taught to ‘spot the radical’

Teachers, social workers and school janitors may be given training in how to detect increased support for fundamentalism among young Muslims, the AD reports on Wednesday.

The paper says the plan, which still has to get cabinet approval, is one of a number of ideas to combat radical leanings that has drawn up by civil servants.
Jan Kwekel, head teacher at the Melanchton school in Rotterdam, said he would refuse to sent his staff on such a course. ‘We are not going to spy on our pupils. It will only create a dangerous atmosphere of mistrust,’ he told the paper.
