Dutch sergeant killed in Afghan attack

A 30-year-old Dutch army sergeant has been killed and another officer injured in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, army chiefs announced on Monday.

The sergeant and his corporal were hit by an ‘improvised explosive device’ at around 23.30 local time on Sunday, general Dick Berlijn told reporters.
Both men were apparently outside their vehicle looking for road-side bombs to make safe when the explosion happened.
The corporal has been operated on for a head wound but is not said to be in a serious condition.
