The Dutch are not honest people, if the results of a Reader’s Digest experiment are anything to go by. Reporters from the magazine left a total of 960 mobile telephones behind in 32 large cities. Of the 30 phones left in Amsterdam, just 14 were returned, putting the city in 29th place.

Tourists are more honest than the locals in Amsterdam. All four tourists who found a phone returned it. Men gave back just nine of the 21 they found, while women returned seven out of nine.
The most honest people live in the Slovenian city Lubliana where 29 of the 30 phones were returned.
Reader’s Digest also found that age has nothing to do with honesty. An elderly couple in Amsterdam pocketed the phone they found, while in New York a 16 year-old boy returned the phone with a group of friends.
