Angry reaction to agreement on illegal immigrants

The Liberals (VVD) and Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration party (PVV) have reacted angrily to an agreement reached on Monday between junior justice minister Nebahat Albayrak and local councils on how to deal with illegal immigrants who do not qualify for a residency permit under the recent amnesty.

The agreement allows for each case to be looked at independently with local councils having a say in how to help those who have to leave the country.
According to Tuesday’s Telegraaf the two parties are incensed that the agreement does not contain a provision agreed earlier that mayors will collect information on immigrants who are to be deported and hand this to Albayrak.
PVV MP Sietse Fritsma calls the agreement ‘absurd’, the paper says. While VVD MP Halbe Zijlstra has threatened to recall parliament from its summer recess if no satisfactory answers are forthcoming.
