Hospital specialists have drawn up a 10-point plan to reduce the number of medical mistakes by half within five years.

The plan covers the prevention of hospital infections following operations, avoiding unnecessary suffering and carrying out the wrong operation.
The aim is to reduce the number of people who die needlessly in hospital by 850 a year, and to cut the number of medical mistakes by 15,000.
‘Every mistake is one too many,’ chairman Pieter Vierhout told Radio 1 news.
Earlier this year health minister Ab Klink called for a halving of mistakes within five years. Around 1,700 patients die unnecessarily in hospitals each year.
