New electricity cable link to Germany

Dutch national grid operator Tennet and Germany’s RWE are investing €70m in a new cable to make it easier to import and export electricity between the two countries, the Financieele Dagblad reports. The cable will make it possible for the Dutch to import German power which industry claims is around 15% cheaper than power generated in the Netherlands.

The high cost of Dutch electricity is largely due to the fact that most generation in the Netherlands is gas-fired.
