Coalition talks start up again today

Informateur Rein Jan Hoekstra, the man charged with putting a new coalition government together, is this afternoon meeting the leaders of the Christian Democrats, PvdA (Labour) and SP (Socialists) after several days’ breathing space.

The three parties had been considered to be the most likely to form a new cabinet. However, last week CDA-leader Jan Peter Balkenende let it be known he was not keen on a tie up with the SP because the two parties had too many policy differences.
The SP won the most new seats in last month’s general election.
