Rich get richer in Quote 500

The Netherlands’ richest families have seen their assets grow by 10% this year, according to the latest calculations by business magazine Quote. The annual Quote 500 rich list – including 15 billionaires – was unveiled last night. Quote calculates the top 500 have assets totalling €121,515 bn.

Among the 33 new entrants on the list is Angus Young, guitarist with rock band AC/DC. Born in Scotland, Young has lived in the Gelderland town of Aalten since the 1980s. Footballers Marc Overmars (€47 mln) and Dennis Bergkamp (€60 mln) and tv show maker Reinout Oerlemans (€60 mln) are new entrants as well.
Old money dominates the top 10, although the death of the brothers Frits and Paul Fentener van Vlissingen has robbed it of two traditional faces.
1 Brenninkmeijer family (C&A) €15 bn
2 Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken €4.9 bn
3 Heirs of Frits Fentener van Vlissingen (SHV) €2.7 bn
4 Frits Goldschmeding (Randstad) €2.4 bn
5 John Fentener van Vlissingen €2.23 bn
6 Van der Vorm family (HAL) €2.2 bn
7 Heirs Paul Fentener van Vlissingen (SHV) €2.2 bn
8 De Rijcke family (Kruidvat) €1.9 bn
9 Dreesman family (V&D) €1.7 bn

Rapper Lange Frans entertained guests with a rap entitled De rijken moeten niet zeiken – the rich shouldn’t moan.
