Scientists at Wageningen University have succeeded in isolating a vital gene in the plant, Alpine Pennycress (Thlaspi caerulescens), which absorbs heavy metals and stores them in its leaves.

The Financieele Dagblad reports that the researchers hope their work will help develop GM plants which can decontaminate vast areas of polluted soil.
