Dutch mosques are being increasingly used to channel money between the Netherlands and Morocco, according to a report quoted in the Financieele Dagblad.

The report claims between €5.5 mln and €8 mln in cash is taken abroad by imams and mosque workers. This is about 6% of the money sent home by Moroccans living in Holland. Some 29% is moved by ordinary banks and 47% through money transfers.
The report said the lack of Moroccan banking facilities in the Netherlands is one reason people use mosques to transport money.
